Our History
From it's founding in 1921, Mitsubishi Electric has been at the forefront of Japan's technical ingenuity and product innovation. From it's first hit product (an electric fan for consumer use) Mitsubishi Electric has continued to create a long list of "firsts" and groundbreaking new technologies that have shaped its business fields all around the world.
Mitsubishi Electric Europe (MEU) Lift and Escalator Division (LED) have been providing services for Design, Manufacture, Install and Maintenance to a UK national customer base since 1995.
Location
Our principal factory, located at lnazawa in Japan (MELINA), is responsible for the prime research and development of the products with a production capacity of 18,000 elevators per year. In addition, we also have factories in the Netherlands (EMEC) and Thailand (AMEC), with a combined output of over 20,000 units per year.
Manufactured placing priority on safety first, our elevators are renowned for their excellent efficiency, energy saving and comfort.

Overall quality and reliability of equipment during manufacture, installation and maintenance is a major priority.
Our factories are certified to ISO 9001. All equipment manufactured for European supply is accredited by our Notified Body.
In the UK, Mitsubishi Electric is certified for the design, installation and servicing of lifts and escalators. In order to meet the requirements of the Lift Regulations, our quality system is accredited by Bureau Veritas as a Notified Body.

Health and safety in the workplace is at the heart of our policies and we strive to create a safe working environment with a positive and proactive health and safety culture.
To achieve this, we pay due regard to protect our workers from harm and reduce work-related incidents. We encourage consultation and participation with our workers to further this goal. We also achieve this in part with an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system that is in line with the international standard IS045001.
Our People
LEIA is the trade association and advisory body for the lift and escalator industry, formed in 1997 by the merging of two long-standing associations with a history dating back to 1932. With a membership covering some 85% of the lift and escalator industry, LEIA represents a single voice for the sector.
LEIA members supply passenger and goods/service lifts, stairlifts, homelifts, lifting platforms, escalators, passenger conveyors and a range of component parts for such products. LEIA members also undertake the maintenance of over 300,000 products falling within the scope of the Association.
Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V. Lift and Escalator Division (LED) became proud members in 2025.
The Lift Industry Charity aims to provide, often essential, initial financial support to the families of those working within the UK lift industry who are injured or lose their life.
They are funded purely through donations and support lift professionals, manufacturers, installers and engineers in the UK.
